See you soon

Sometimes life doesn't give us what we want. I'm very sad but next course I won't be teaching English at Cervetó School. It has been great to teach and share special moments with all of you. I am going to miss everyone of you. I won't forget you. My best regards and wishes for the future. Whenever you need something, just ask. Always yours,
Monica

late inspiration

Some sort of sadness overcomes us at the end of the school year,
happiness as well,
plenty of stress and last minute efforts by students, teachers, secretaries...
one more year goes by
some memories left, all we've got,
students leave, students arrive
and still gonna miss them
and still wouldn't like to be younger
and still from all the jobs,
this one is the best
some sort of happiness overcomes us at the begining of the school year.
sadness as well.

Barcelona secure Spanish title after Madrid loss
Villarreal 3-2 Real Madrid

Barcelona were crowned Primera Division champions after Real Madrid were beaten 3-2 at Villarreal.
Madrid twice came from behind to draw level, but keeper Iker Casillas' error in stoppage time gifted Villarreal the victory which leaves Juande Ramos' men eight points behind Barca with just two games left. Even a draw, though, would not have been enough for Madrid to stay in the title hunt.
Barcelona travel to Real Mallorca tomorrow, but the Catalans' focus can now turn to their Champions League final meeting with Manchester United. It is the second trophy for Barcelona this term after they secured the Copa del Rey in midweek.
Villarreal denied Pep Guardiola's men the title last weekend as they scored a last-gasp leveller at the Nou Camp, and there was another thrilling climax at El Madrigal, although this time Barca were the beneficiaries.
The normally unflappable Casillas dropped a cross at the feet of Joan Capdevila who tapped home the winner at the death.
Gonzalo Higuain had looked to have secured a point for Madrid with an 88th-minute leveller which looked clearly offside.
Earlier Robert Pires (17) and Ruben Cani (62) twice put the Yellow Submarine ahead either side of a Rafael Van der Vaart equaliser.
The win moved Villarreal level on points with Valencia in the race for fourth place and the final Champions League qualification spot. The two sides meet next weekend.
Elsewhere this evening, third-placed Sevilla were held to a goalless draw by Osasuna, who moved three points above the drop zone.
Both teams ended the game with 10 men after Sevilla had Ndri Romaric dismissed in the 83rd minute and Osasuna's Sergio Fernandez was sent off in added time.
Riki's late strike earned Deportivo La Coruna a 1-1 draw with Getafe to leave the Madrid-based side sweating over survival.
Roberto Soldado's goal just after half-time looked to have given Getafe a second straight league win, and that would have seen Michel's side reach the 40-point mark ahead of key games against Numancia and Racing Santander.
But former Getafe striker Riki struck five minutes from time to frustrate his old team-mates and keep Deportivo's hopes of a place in European competition next season alive.

For Advanced Reading.

Larkin is nation's top poet

Philip Larkin has been chosen as the nation's best-loved poet of the last 50 years, according to a survey by the Poetry Book Society.
The poet's The Whitsun Weddings was also named the best-loved poem and the best-loved collection of poems.
The survey was held to mark the joint 50th Anniversary of the Poetry Book Society and the Poetry Library and thousands of people were canvassed.
Larkin died almost 18 years ago but his poetry collections, including High Windows, have become required reading for school children and students. Larkin worked as a librarian in Hull (where I lived for a year)
Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath were named the joint second favourite poets.
Favourite poets
1. Philip Larkin
2. Ted Hughes
2. Sylvia Plath
4. Seamus Heaney
5. RS Thomas

A film about their relationship, called Sylvia, starring Gwyneth Paltrow as the poet, is due to be released next year.
Carol Ann Duffy figured very well in the survey - her poem Prayer was second favourite, her The World's Wife collection was fourth and she was named the 10th favourite poet in the country.
T S Eliot founded the Poetry Book Society in 1950 and in the same year the Poetry Library made its first-ever loans.
The book society works to provide literature lovers with access to contemporary poetry which they might not find in high street book-shops.

EXERCISE: CHOOSE ONE POEM FROM ANY OF THE AUTHORS MENTION BEFORE AND EXPLAIN IT.

FOR 3RD ESO: WHO ARE THE BEACH BOYS?

The Beach Boys is an American rock band. Formed in 1961, the group gained popularity for its close vocal harmonies and lyrics reflecting a Southern California youth culture of cars and surfing. Brian Wilson's growing creative ambitions later transformed them into a more artistically innovative group that earned critical praise and influenced many later musicians.
The group initially comprised singer-musician-composer Brian Wilson, his brothers,
Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. This core quintet, along with early member David Marks and later bandmate Bruce Johnston, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 1988.
The Beach Boys have often been called "America's Band". The group has had thirty-six U.S.
Top 40 hits (the most of any U.S. rock band) and fifty-six Hot 100 hits, including four number one singles. Rolling Stone magazine listed The Beach Boys as one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. According to Billboard, in terms of singles and album sales, The Beach Boys are the No. 1-selling American band of all time. (Information from Wikipedia)
